Tamsin Turnbull
I'm Tamsin, owner of Tamsin's Jump Fitness classes delivered from Marske Leisure Centre.I, like Michelle before me, come from a dance background. After completing a Dance degree at Sunderland University and going on to get my PGCE, over the last decade I have travelled the world performing on cruise ships, in hotels, touring productions and many corporate events. Between contracts I could usually be found taking a Jump Fitness class or 20!! Gradually I found that my passion for dance matched my passion for fitness and I realised that my career could eventually lie across both so I began taking as many fitness qualifications as I could around, and sometimes during, dance contracts.
I have always found Jump fitness classes to be the friendliest around. We definitely have that community vibe going on and I hope to keep that going!!
I believe that exercise is key to feeling good both mentally and physically. Jump Fitness has helped me through some tough times, through both the friendly attitudes of the instructors and participants, and the classes themselves. There is something unbeatable about group fitness classes. Everyone working hard, together as a team. I've always found that I got better results from attending classes with others than working out alone, but don't take my word for it... Come along and try for yourself.
You won't regret it.
'You will only ever regret the workout you didn't do!'
Michelle Robinson
I am originally from a dance background working in theatres in Europe and Great Britain and on cruise ships travelling the world. I hung up my dancing shoes and made the transition to the world of fitness in 2005. I have always kept fit and spent any time off in between contacts at the gym and participating in fitness classes. I didn't think I could enjoy and career as much as my dancing days and yet I love the fitness industry and use my energy and creativity to deliver magical fitness classes. I got the nickname 'The Machine', as I will help you to achieve goals that you never thought possible! Look after your body, its the only one you'll get...Si (yoga instructor)
My approach to teaching yoga is a little bit different to that of many other teachers. It helps that I'm not like most teachers either, I'm just a bloke from Teesside, and that's how I'd like to come across. I think sometimes it can be a bit off putting, having a super flexible teacher who fills their class with the myth and mystery that surrounds yoga. I've got a bit of a thing about using the Sanskrit words for the poses, its fine for some but not for me. That's not to say I don't include these things, I'm all for adding the stories around the poses, but I try to bring these in a way that people can identify with.Yoga has a bit of an elitist stigma about it, which I try and dispel. I'll only teach what I like, and have no problem showing how hard the poses can be. I also like to break down some of the poses into the basics, so that the class can get a full understanding of the pose, rather than just bash through the practice, which I think helps the class learn rather than just doing.
Tuesday's class is based around Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga. Hatha is coming into a pose, then moving into the next, whilst Vinyasa is more dynamic in that the poses are linked which creates more of a flow. Both styles build strength, length and stamina, using breath to help move-the essentials of what Yoga means-a balance of breath and body
Breath is possibly the most important part of the practice, by controlling the breath, we can control our situation, calming the mood and relaxing the body.
A Vinyasa Flow can be like a moving meditation, moving without thinking can help reduce stress, even when the flow is fast and sweaty.
Thursday's Yin Class is a different style, targeting the interconnective tissue and joints, especially around the hips, pelvis and lower back. The majority of this class is taken seated or laying down, but is equally as challenging as a Vinyasa Class.
Often thought of as boring, Yin yoga is a brilliant practice not only to increase flexibility, but to bring calm to the body and mind. In this style of yoga, we hold poses for three minutes, (or more) using the breath to allow us to reach a place where we are on the edge of discomfort, which is not only a physical challenge, but also a mental one. Being determined to stay, unmoving, in each pose allows us to focus on ourselves, dismissing any thoughts to be dealt with later.
For me, yoga brings balance to my life, and allows me time to re-energise myself. It's not just about the hour on the mat either, we can practice yoga everywhere, which will help us become better at being a human.
Breathing techniques, being considerate to ourselves and returning to the sense of peace we find on our mats, helps us mentally. There are no real downsides to the practice.
If you believe in the Yin Yang of life, then Yoga will help you find the silent border that exists between the two (that's deep innit)
All of my classes are for all abilities, for people who are curious about yoga, looking for improving flexibility, strength and searching for a bit of peace. A lot of people don't go looking for yoga, it finds them.
Amie
Hello! Ola! Bonjour! Ciao! For many of those who know me and those of you who don't I'm Amelia aka Amie!
I believe like many fitness Instructors, we all have a passion for a good ol' tune! and a wicked boogie to begin with, which is where I first found my calling in the entertainments industry. I started out as a Butlins Redcoat where you could find me for many years during the day hosting and presenting Saturday morning kids style entertainment. Animating with the likes of 'Looney toons' 'Barney the dinosaur' and 'Bob the builder'. Then in the evenings, dancing in some of the most fabulous productions shows centre stage.
It was being part of the British holiday scene I discovered my passion for people and fitness by leading group exercise fitness classes such as Aqua Gym and ZUMBA for our guests.
Now, I am tremendously excited having being a class member of 'Jump fitness' myself to take that passion to our very own stage, community and fitness family.
Together, we've got this!
